I am highly upset, rather aggravated this morning and my spirit is vexed so I am going to make it short.
The Minister and I had this debate about two years ago and it recently came up in conversation with my girlfriend.
When you are dating or in a relationship with someone do you accept them for who they are? Or, do you accept them for who can they potentially be? Do you judge them by their current circumstances? Could you accept them on the promises that their current situation will change?
You date someone to see who they are, and what they're about. you turn the corner to relationshipvile, because you've seen what they are about..flaws and all, and you've decided you can compromise and hopefully so can they
ReplyDeleteMan in a perfect world but I know people who don't even get that far. They look at a person's current circumstances to estimate what they have to bring to the table more so physically/financially than emotionally then for them there is nothing further to discuss, they are done and on to the next thing.

I honestly do not believe there is a formula for it but I've NEVER dated anyone because of their potential. I mean... that doesn't even sound right. If you're talking long term relationship you have to accept them as they are.
ReplyDeleteSo many things can happen to a person to change where they end up or what they become. If you can somehow love that person regardless of their circumstances and (very important) not base YOUR happiness on them or their success, things will turn out just fine.
Took me years to figure out that last part and I still have to remind myself from time to time.
